A 0-0 draw is a disappointing result for Manchester United. The Red Devils struggled to break down a stubborn Newcastle United team.
Sergio Romero: 6 - Romero again played ahead of David De Gea and was relatively untested throughout. Fortunately for Romero a first-half header from Aleksandar Mitrovic hit the crossbar. Aside from that moment the Argentine 'keeper was solid.
Matteo Darmian: 6 - The Italian fullback continued the impressive start to his United career. He worked tirelessly up-and-down the pitch but lacked the final bit of quality in the offensive third.
Chris Smalling: 7 - Arguably United's best player this season and was once again one of the best players on the pitch. Defended well against a difficult opponent in Mitrovic and could have won the game at the end with a good header from a United corner.
Daley Blind: 7 - Continues to prove doubters wrong by putting in another solid performance in central defence. Did not do anything brilliant but also didn't make any bad mistakes.
Luke Shaw: 7 - Probably United's best player. Worked hard defensively and gave nothing away, but also made sure he was regularly getting forward. Showed some nice interplay with Morgan Schneiderlin in the second-half where a better strike of the ball may have broken the deadlock.
Morgan Schneiderlin: 6 - Did a good defensive job, making interceptions and breaking up the play. Failed to offer a lot offensively however and was only just 'OK' when United needed something more.
Bastian Schweinsteiger: 6 - Got a good reception from the Old Trafford faithful but was rather unimpressive in his first start. Showed some good signs early with some classy passing but copped a knock which appeared to negatively impact upon his mobility. Ran out of steam towards the hour mark.
Juan Mata: 6.5 - Retained possession well and played some good passes to teammates. In particular he looked dangerous when moved centrally. Probably tried to find the perfect pass too often when a shot was on, and will be disappointed not to have impacted the game more considering the quality he has.
Adnan Januzaj: 5 - A third consecutive start brought a bit of a mixed-bag for the Belgian. Was too easily knocked off the ball at times and when things started to go against him he began to play for free-kicks. While he did show some glimpses of his talent it was not enough - particularly for a player in the #10 role and who is supposed to be the creative hub of the team.
Memphis Depay: 6 - A strange game for the Dutch youngster. Was able to beat his fullback opponent regularly but was never able to make the right decision beyond that. Elected to shoot on multiple occasions when a pass would have been the better option. An inconsistent performance but one that you expect from a young player.
Wayne Rooney: 6 - Worked hard and will argue that his offside goal in the first-half was an incorrect call. Ultimately failed to find that vital bit of space that would have allowed him to get a shot off and will be disappointed that he hasn't broken out of his form slump. Still has to improve if he is to be United's number one striker this season.
Javier Hernandez: 5 - Was brought on to find the winning goal and almost did that towards the end of the match. However he made the wrong decision to try and play the ball back to Juan Mat and the attack fizzled out.
Michael Carrick: 7 - Was not on the pitch for long but played rather well. Fired a few good passes in-between the lines to teammates and almost scored with a long-range attempt.
Antonio Valencia: 5 - Didn't get a lot of time to impact the game but was unimpressive in his brief cameo. Gave the ball away a few times and was not able to find the right cross from the right side.
