John Terry signed a new contract in May that saw him remain with the club for at least another year. Terry has proven time and again that he is still one of the best defenders in the world, despite his increasing age.
This then begs the question, why has Terry been forced to see his beloved Chelsea side perform so poorly from the bench.
Chelsea is a side that is struggling for form and yet Mourinho decided to leave four key players on the bench for the clash with Porto. Eden Hazard, Nemanja Matic, Oscar and Terry all lined a star studded bench.
It must be asked how long can Mourinho continue to not field his strongest side?
Last season, Terry played every minute of the 38 game Premier League season, however he has been left to sit among the substitutes for the fourth time in five games.
While the current pairing of Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma appears to be a strong partnership at the back for the future, it is currently not performing with the side’s defensive record leaving a lot to be desired.
Can Chelsea turn their fortunes around or will their season continue to stutter?
