A disappointing performance from Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium. They were blown away early by the Gunners as Alexis Sanchez twice, and Mesut Ozil once, all scored within 25 minutes. The 3-0 victory is a setback for the Red Devils who believed they were finally ready to challenge for the title again.

Player Ratings:

David De Gea: 5 - Was not a whole lot he could do to stop the early Arsenal assault.

You might also like

Matteo Darmian: 3- Horrendous performance. Looked like an under 18 player out there against Alexis Sanchez. Was comprehensively beaten by Sanchez before being subbed off at half-time in a terrible display.

Chris Smalling: 5 - Improved massively in the second half but by then the match was gone. Was not directly at fault for any of the three goals but was one cog of the entire defensive unit that collapsed.

Daley Blind: 5 - Tried to be the calming influence when the back four was under siege but to no avail. Was continually exploited for his defensive deficiencies.

Ashley Young: 4 - Was asked to play out of position and struggled. United missed Luke Shaw's defensive nous and pace as Young was repeatedly the target of Arsenal attacks. Was naive defensively but got little support.

Michael Carrick: 5 - Tried to get on the ball and control the tempo but struggled. Failed to protect his defence early, looked slow and immobile for most of the match, and even missed a few trademark passes. Age perhaps catching up with him.

Bastian Schweinsteiger: 6 - Tried to press up the field in the first half, leaving huge gaps in behind. Improved a lot in the second and looked one of few United players who wanted to take responsibility on the ball.

Juan Mata: 6 - Was anonymous early but understandable given how little of the ball United had. Didn't help Darmian out defensively but was economic and calm when in possession.

Wayne Rooney: 5 - Looked better in the second half when moved wide left. Was abhorrent in the first half however. Lacked leadership, a first touch, and a willingness to work. Attempted too many 'Hollywood' passes which led nowhere. Somehow still escapes criticism from the British media.

Memphis Depay: 4 - Made wrong decision after wrong decision. Dribbled into opponents, passed to the wrong teammate, and looked to shoot when it was never on. Is maybe fatiguing after a relentless start to his EPL career. Poor.

Anthony Martial: 6.5 - Arguably United's best, again. Showed good first touch and willingness to work all match. Was denied by Petr Cech after a nice turn inside the box.

Substitutes

Antonio Valencia: 6 - Came on for Darmian and was an immediate improvement. Defended well but lacked in attack. The damage was already done though.

Marouane Fellaini: 6 - United looked better when he came on as he was controlled in his passing. Was unable to be a real threat for goal though.

James Wilson: 5 - Had no real time to make an impact.
