The pressure on Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has lifted slightly following a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. Many of the Chelsea players have been lining up to express their support of Mourinho in recent weeks and it appears their faith has been rewarded.
While the win was just what Chelsea needed to potentially bounce back this season, it was an overall poor performance against an opposition who is much lower in class and has been struggling.
Chelsea went into the game in 16th place and the win shoots them up the ladder to 11th, only 5 points off fourth place, while Aston Villa remain in 18th position.
Diego Costa made his return from suspension to have a hand in both Chelsea goals and lead Chelsea to victory, despite numerous altercations with the Aston Villa players. Costa scored a tap in coming from a Villa mistake and a strong rebound from a Costa shot lead to an own goal and secured the Chelsea victory.
That own goal means that Chelsea have now benefited from 3 own goals this season and own goals are Chelsea’s top scorer with Diego Costa and Willian coming in second with two each.
