It wasn't overly exciting but Manchester United claimed the three points against West Bromich Albion at Old Trafford. The 2-0 victory, with goals from Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata, means United will stay in fourth place heading into the international break.
David de Gea: 6 - A really dull night for the Spanish shot-stopper. Looked shaky on a few early balls into the box but dominated his area later in the match when it was required.
Ashley Young: 6 - An average performance at right-back. Had little to do defensively but was unable to make an impact going forward.
Chris Smalling: 7.5 - Dominated Rondon defensively. Was imperious and also constantly brought the ball out of defence and into midfield, pushing his team forward.
Daley Blind: 7 -
Is able to focus on his passing game as his central defensive partner is so dominant. Played some nice passes and was un-tested defensively. Good, solid match for Blind.
Marcos Rojo: 7 - Another good performance at left-back for Rojo. Controlled Sessegnon well for the most part, and was able to get forward and deliver some crosses occasionally.
Bastian Schweinsteiger: 6.5 - Another match where the German controlled the midfield. However he was too cautious in his passing again when United desperately needed that creative spark. Was very good otherwise.
Michael Carrick: 7 - Continues to build his form after a slow start to the season. Alongside Schweinsteiger he controlled the midfield with ease. Struggled to find holes against the defensive opponents, but had a few passes that almost came off.
Juan Mata: 6.5 - Gets half a mark for putting away the penalty but was rather ineffective otherwise. In matches against opponents who are so defensive Mata needs to be the creative hub of the team. Must improve his form.
Wayne Rooney: 7 - Another decent performance for Rooney. Worked hard defensively and looks to have regained his passing and first touch. Encouraging signs.
Jesse Lingard: 8 - Was a constant threat for United through his dribbling and ability to find space. Scored his first professional goal for the Club with a lovely right-footed long-range finish.
Anthony Martial: 7 - Improved after a disappointing performance midweek against CSKA Moscow. Created a few chances for himself but was unable to score. Did well to win the penalty which Mata converted.
Phil Jones: 6 - Replaced Young on the right of defence and was okay.
Ander Herrera: 6 - Only had a short-time on the pitch.
Borthwick-Jackson: 6 - Came on to make his debut and was impressive in the little time he had.
