Manchester United endured a tough time against Watford at Vicarage Road. After taking the lead through Memphis Depay's left-footed volley, the Red Devils gradually began to drop deeper and deeper into their own half as the match wore on.
Eventually, a clumsy challenge from Marcos Rojo gave Troy Deeney the chance to convert from the penalty spot. After Deeney successfully smashed home the penalty it looked as if Watford would see out the match for a well earned point. However some late drama saw Bastian Schweinsteiger squeeze a shot from a tight angle off Deeney and into the Watford goal, giving United a late winner.
The 2-1 victory for United was a good result considering the amount of players they had injured.
David de Gea: 7 - An interesting match for the Spaniard. Had real difficulty with the howling wind in the first-half and his distribution suffered, but was untested in regards to saves. Made a very good stop to keep United ahead at one point in the second-half, and dealt comfortably with others that were hit straight at him.
Ashley Young: 6 - An average performance for Young. Gave the ball away cheaply in the first-half and was fortunate that Watford was unable to capitalize. Tried willingly in attack and defence but does appear to lack that real quality that will make him an important first team member at United.
Chris Smalling: 7 - Similar to Jones in that he was solid all game. Was his usual dominant self in the air and made some vital blocks. Also nearly scored a great goal with a flick from a corner when the match was at 1-1. Continues to impress.
Daley Blind: 7 - An unassuming outing for Blind who was neat and tidy with his play. Retained possession well and played some delightful passes to link the defence and attack at times. Defended well when he had to but Watford did not seem to attack down his flank as much. Once again showed his versatility by playing as a left wing-back.
Bastian Schweinsteiger: 6 - Despite getting a crucial touch which led to the winner it was a poor performance from the German. Was sloppy in his passing and at times his usually immaculate first touch failed him. Was largely unimpressive in comparison to his usual high standards.
Ander Herrera: 6.5 - Unfortunately appeared to suffer a potential hamstring injury which cut short his time on the pitch. Delivered a superb cross for Memphis to open the scoring and was positive in his passing. United lacked creativity when he went off the pitch and may struggle if he is to be out for a prolonged period of time.
Juan Mata: 6 - Another poor performance from Mata. Was the most senior player in United's attack but he struggled to make any impression on the match. Was careless and sloppy on occasions and was eventually substituted for Andreas Pereira. Has to improve or he may find himself sitting on the bench.
Marcos Rojo: 5.5 - Looked nervy and uncomfortable all game after replacing Herrera in the first-half. Was caught out of position on occasion and gave away the penalty that almost saw United share the points.
Paddy McNair: 5.5 - Showed signs of rustiness which is understandable. United appeared to lose some solidity after McNair was brought on as Smalling was forced to cover for both him and Rojo at times.
Andreas Pereira: N/A - Was only on the pitch for a short time and did not do enough to allow for a rating to be given.
