Socceroos defender Brad Smith has been named the Liverpool Academy players' player of the season.

Having joined Liverpool's youth academy as a 14-year-old, the gong caps off a good week for Sydney-born Smith, who was named in Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou's squad to face England on May 27.

The 22-year-old has performed well for the Reds when given his first-team chance in cup competitions during the season, drawing praise from manager Jurgen Klopp as well as club legends Jamie Carragher and Mark Lawrenson.

But his second English Premier League start was soured when was sent off in Liverpool's 3-1 loss to Swansea two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho took home four awards including player of the season.

Coutinho's goal against Manchester United in the Europa League tie in March was voted goal of the season, while his efforts in Liverpool's 4-1 win over Manchester City in November earned him the performance of the season award.
